About

Dr. Sgouridis is Associate Professor at Masdar Institute (MI). His research interests focus on understanding sustainable energy transitions using engineering systems modeling. He is involved in projects and writes about the energy currency, electric vehicle adoption, sustainable aviation, and the energy transition globally and regionally. Dr. Sgouridis was instrumental in establishing the Sustainable Bioenergy Research Consortium and was head of Institute Center for Smart and Sustainable Systems (2013-2014). He has participated in the Zayed Future Energy Prize as a member and previous chair of the review committee for years 2010-2015. Prior to his role at MI, Dr. Sgouridis supported governmental and private organizations including the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Port Authority of Thessaloniki, and the Hellenic Army. At MIT he obtained a PhD in Engineering Systems, and a dual MSc in Technology and Policy  and Transportation. He holds a BS (Hons.) in Civil & Environmental Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. When not in front of a class or a computer, he enjoys time with family, climbing rocky areas from RAK to Tajikistan and occasionally biking in the desert.
